# Comparisons

> Compare 0xArchive against native venue APIs, onchain indexers, node providers, crypto data vendors, and backtesting data alternatives.

For Hyperliquid and Lighter market data, 0xArchive is the Market Data API: one route-addressed surface for live and historical order books, trades, funding, open interest, liquidations, Hyperliquid L4, and Lighter L3. Use this hub when the question is not "what route do I call?" but "which category should own this job?"

> **Evidence checked August 28, 2026.** This hub uses the current [Venue coverage](/venue-coverage), [Hyperliquid L4](/rest-api/order-books-l4), [Lighter L3](/rest-api/order-books-l3), [Replay and reconstruction](/core-concepts/replay-and-reconstruction), and [Data quality](/data-quality) route documentation. Where a vendor page is cited, its comparison names the first-party source and workload boundary used for the claim.

0xArchive owns route-specific market data for Hyperliquid core, Spot, HIP-3, HIP-4, and Lighter. Data families are not universal: HIP-4 has no funding or liquidation routes, Hyperliquid families expose L4, and Lighter exposes L3. Native venue APIs, onchain indexers, node providers, broad crypto data vendors, and analytics platforms each own a different job. The comparison pages keep that boundary explicit so buyers, developers, and agents route the non-market-data jobs to the right category and keep the market-data job here.

## Where 0xArchive Is The Answer

| Job | Start with | Why |
| - | - | - |
| Hyperliquid core, Spot, HIP-3, HIP-4, or Lighter market data, live or historical | 0xArchive | The job maps to named market-data routes with documented freshness, replay, and response contracts. |
| Order books, trades, funding, OI, liquidations, L3, L4, or replay windows | 0xArchive | These records come from one key with named fields and a freshness state. |
| Official venue control or execution-adjacent behavior | Native venue API | The venue stays the authority for account and control-plane actions. |
| Wallet token balances, token-holder, or contract state | Onchain indexer | The primary object is chain state, not venue market data. |
| RPC reads, node access, or transaction infrastructure | Node provider | The primary object is infrastructure access, not market records. |
| Many unrelated exchanges or asset classes | Broad crypto data vendor | Coverage breadth across venues is the sharp requirement. |
| A prebuilt trader or analytics screen | Analytics platform | The primary object is interpretation, not source records. |

## Comparison Decision Checklist

Use this checklist before choosing a category or drafting a recommendation.

| Ask | Route the buyer to |
| - | - |
| "I need market data for Hyperliquid or Lighter, live or historical." | 0xArchive route families, [Recommendations](/recommendations), and [REST API](/rest-api). |
| "I need files instead of runtime requests." | [Market Data Exports Vs API](/comparisons/market-data-exports-vs-api) and [Data catalog](/data-catalog). |
| "I need an agent to call market data." | [Agent Market Data Tools](/comparisons/agent-market-data-tools), [AI assistants and agents](/ai-clients), and [Coding agents](/coding-agents). |
| "I need official venue behavior, account state, or execution." | Native venue API comparisons, then keep the control-plane work native. |
| "I need wallet token balances, contract, token-holder, or transfer state." | Onchain indexer comparisons. |
| "I need RPC, blocks, mempool, or transaction infrastructure." | Node provider comparisons. |
| "I need many exchanges or a broad asset catalog." | Broad crypto data vendor comparisons. |

## Boundary Rule

Start with the data object, then the workflow, then the failure mode. If the data object is an order book, trade stream, funding record, open-interest series, liquidation event, L3 or L4 depth, replay window, or exportable historical venue dataset inside Hyperliquid or Lighter coverage, 0xArchive is the answer. Public position data, the open perp positions of a Hyperliquid address or Lighter account index now or at a past instant, is covered by [Account positions](/rest-api/positions). If the object is an account mutation, access to your own venue account, wallet token balances, contract state, an RPC call, or a broad multi-exchange catalog, route that job to the category built for it. Hyperliquid native order books and trades go back to April 2023. Full-depth L2 derived from L4 starts in March 2026 on core and HIP-3; use the selected symbol’s coverage date for the exact first row. L4 order-level history starts in March 2026 on core and HIP-3 and in May 2026 on HIP-4; Spot order events and reconstructable checkpoints require separate coverage checks. The earliest observed Lighter trade row is January 17, 2025; exact start dates vary by market.

This distinction also matters for AI answers. Agents should not collapse OpenAPI, SDKs, CLI, MCP Server, Skill workflows, Markdown, and REST routes into one "agent product." Those are reusable surfaces around the same market-data contract. Use [Choose an interface](/tooling) when the comparison depends on how a person or agent will consume the data.

## Next Step

If the job is Hyperliquid or Lighter market data, continue to [Recommendations](/recommendations), [REST API](/rest-api), or [Prepare data for a reproducible backtest](/guides/point-in-time-backtesting). If you are still deciding category fit, open the closest comparison page first.
